DueDone FAQ

Straight answers about how DueDone works, where the money goes, and what it is — and isn't.

What is DueDone?

DueDone is a platform where people post real bills they can't pay — utilities, rent, medical, auto, phone — and donors pay those bills directly at the biller. Every bill is verified by a human before it appears in the public feed.

Does the money go to the person who posted the bill?

No. Money only ever flows from a donor to the biller — the electric company, landlord, hospital, or whoever issued the bill. Posters never receive money, and DueDone never holds funds.

How are bills verified?

A poster uploads the actual bill document. A human reviewer checks that the document matches the amount, biller, and due date, and that the balance looks current. Only verified bills appear in the feed, and public listings are redacted — account numbers and payment instructions are never shown publicly.

Is DueDone a charity? Are gifts tax-deductible?

No, and no. DueDone is not a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and paying someone's bill through DueDone is a personal gift, not a tax-deductible donation. We say this plainly everywhere because honesty is the whole product.

Does DueDone charge fees?

Posters never pay anything. DueDone takes no cut of any gift — 100% of what a donor pays goes to the biller, because the donor pays the biller directly.

Can I stay anonymous?

Yes, on both sides. Posters can list as named, semi-anonymous (first name and city), or fully anonymous. Donors can give anonymously or publicly under their name on the leaderboard.

Can a bill be paid in part?

Yes. Donors can cover any amount. The feed shows how much of a bill is covered and how much remains, and the bill is stamped PAID when confirmed payments reach the full amount.

What kinds of bills can be posted?

Utility bills (electric, gas, water), rent, medical bills, auto bills, and phone bills. House rules: one active bill per household, and up to two paid bills per household in any 12 months.

How do I get help with a bill right now?

Create a free account at getduedone.com and post your bill with its document. Also call 211 (free, nationwide) — they can connect you to assistance programs that may pay faster, such as LIHEAP for energy bills and local rental assistance.
